FI-AL-RIKKAB

This word stands for "freeing the necks" which means that Zakat can be used for getting slaves released from their masters and freed to live life as free and independent person.

GHARMEEN

These are the persons who as a result of some accident i.e., loss in business, illness or for any other reason beyond their control undergo a debt, the repayment of which happens to be difficult for them. Zakat can be used to the rescue of such persons to rehabilitate them in normal life.

FI-SABEEL-ALLAH

This means that Zakat can be used for tasks undertaken in the way of Allah i.e., to the students seeking religious education or to equip for Jehad to a person who is eager to participate in it but he does not afford to buy the weapons and other war equipment.

IBN-AL-SABEEL

This means that Zakat can be given to such wayfarers who happen to lose or have exhausted their money and cannot reach their destination unless helped financially. Such persons deserve Zakat.
