ZAKAT PROFIT FUND

Section 3-A of the Zakat and Ushr Act 1985, empowers the Government to setup a separate fund from the profit accrued on the Zakat Fund and it is treated as the “public money”.

The Extract of the relevant section:

3-A. Profit on Zakat Fund. - (1) The profit accrued on the deposit of the Zakat Fund shall be deemed to be public money and shall be utilized as may be prescribed by the Government.
(2) Whoever being in any manner entrusted with Zakat fund or the profits accrued thereon, commits criminal breach of trust in respect of that fund or profit or uses the fund or profit for the purpose not specified by the Shariah or any law for the time being enforce, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine. (3) An action under sub-section (2) shall not absolve any person from the process of recovery of such amount under any law for the time being enforce.

The basic purpose of establishing the profit fund by AJK Government is to use it for providing financial aid to those deserving persons who suffer from deadly diseases like Cancer, Cardiac Problems, Renal Failure. beside treatment a considerable amount is reserved for providing financial aid for their children through education institutions.


ZAKAT PROFIT FUND BOARD

Zakat Profit Fund Board has powers to approve the budget and general matters relating to policy making, decision, budge approval and utilization of funds.
